The Letter

Every once in a while I remember the letter. If it’s you reading this right now I’d like to say Thank You. You’ll have to check your email of course, before you say, You’re Welcome. The chances of meeting you here are unlikely. You’ll have to check your email, of course. A lot of heartache has come and gone since you wrote me. You’ll have to check your email, of course. Make sure to be specific. Go ahead and copy and paste this in:

Do consider the time zone.

When I first said, Yes! Write Me. I was hurting. I’m still hurting and I accept that I hurt often if not always. I was more than a year late getting to it. I finally read your letter at the beginning of the pandemic. The world is on fire everyday. It’s at war everyday.

At the beginning of the pandemic when the world was peeling the veil I still couldn’t stop myself from thinking of her. And somehow that led me to think of you.

I think to myself.

I hope you’re a Dad now.

I hope you’re safe. I hope you’re warm. Youseff, I hope you don’t have COVID. Not you, Yousef, but You, Youseff.

You’ll have to check your email, of course. The chances of meeting you here are very unlikely. But I write to you anyway.
How are you anyway?
